Driffield Battlefield Tours
D-Day – December 2005
Hotel: Kyriad Caen Sud IF
Basic but clean, the main problem with this motel-style accommodation is the distance into Caen centre - around 10km - making a visit to the city's bars and restaurants a bit of a drag after a long day out on the battelfields, but as ever with French cuisine, it's worth the effort.
First day - Pegasus Bridge and British/Canadian Beaches.
Pegasus Bridge, Memorial Pegasus Museum, Ranville Cemetery - Airborne graves, British landing beaches - Sword Beach, Juno Beach, Gold Beach. Arromanches museum and Mulberry Harbour.
Second day - American beaches - Omaha and Utah. American Normandy Cemetery at Omaha Beach, US Airborne Museum at St. Mere Eglise, German Cemetery at La Cambe, where German Tiger Ace Michael Wittmann is buried.
