The 2015 tour: Shot at Dawn - Military Executions in WW1

This year marks the tenth anniversary of the group’s first trip to Normandy. As in most recent years, we’re again in WWI territory in Belgium and northern France, this time staying in the small Belgian town of Mouscron, just across the border from Lille.

The tour looks at the story behind some of the unfortunate lads executed by the British Army in WWI for various offences, including murder, desertion and cowardice – more than 300 were shot between 1914 and 1918.

We’ll be visiting the ‘death cells’ in Poperinghe, the Behind The Lines Museum at Talbot House, and of course Ypres in Belgium, followed by a day in France to visit St. Pol, and The Thiepval Memorial to the Missing of the Somme.
